GRAIN NOTES
May 18, 2012

Good Morning. Strange, unpredictable grain markets prevailed overnight, corn (with bearish fundamentals) were higher, and beans (with bullish fundamentals) were lower. July corn settled out the session 4 cents higher, closing at 6.29. July beans closed 5 ¾ cents lower, at 14.3225. The decline in beans was mostly attributable to Chinese price action overnight. But, overall, concerns over dry weather in the Midwest are the big market mover. And, they will continue to be until we get some rain! Other than those two nuggets of information, there really is a lack of fresh news to report this morning. Outside markets are mixed, with both crude and the dollar slightly off this morning. Chart wise, July corn will find resistance at 6.35. July beans hit a ceiling around 14.50, that may be hard to clear. Opening calls are mostly higher.
